This beautifully preserved hilltop farm offers holiday lodging on the border between Florence and Siena. A traditional hilltop farm in the wine country of Chianti, Residence San Donato now offers vacation lodging with wonderful views of the Pesa Valley from its large sun-bathed terrace and well-kept swimming pool. The assorted rooms and flats have been painstakingly restored taking care to preserve traditional features - the rich colours of tile, brick and wood lending a rustic warmth. The two standalone rooms each accommodate two guests, and each has a bathroom and satellite TV.

The apartments are of various sizes, sleeping between two and four guests, and each has a fully equipped kitchen area, at least one bathroom and satellite TV. The largest apartment has access for the disabled.

The apartments at Residence San Donato manage to combine the delights of a countryside holiday with ease of access to the main attractions of Tuscany. This part of Chianti is ideal for walkers or cyclists, with beautiful scenery and a cornucopia of distractions — historic remains and ancient churches, wineries and traditional restaurants, museums and exhibitions.

San Donato (3km from the village) has various essential shops but the main attractions of course are the famous cities of Florence (27km) and Siena (35km) — breathtakingly beautiful treasure-troves steeped in mediaeval and Renaissance history. Both are easily reached by the motorway that exits at San Donato and hold the promise of days of exploration and discovery.

The cuisine of Chianti is outstanding — a deceptively simple range of dishes which rely on top quality, fresh, local ingredients. There are numerous notable restaurants and trattorias, so make sure you don't miss out on a culinary treat. The area produces some of Italy's most famous wines, ranging from astronomically priced 'Super-Tuscans' in designer bottles to the easy-drinking house wines which you can still occasionally find in a straw-wrapped fiasco or flask.
