Hi Lisa - first, we had seen some of the apartments in Palazzo dei Ciompi when we were living in Firenze in 2003-04, so we knew the quality of the apartments.  As for Lorenzo il Magnifico, this is a wonderful apartment for 2 people because of the stunning views of Firenze from the large upper level bedroom.  The apartment actually can sleep up to 5 people, but no one would want to sleep on the fold out couch in the living/kitchen area.  The single bed off the living/kitchen area is ok for a young person, but maybe not so good for an adult.  The only real complaint about this apartment is that the living/kitchen area is not really suitable/comfortable for entertaining guests, so you would not probably rent this apartment for an extended stay.
Knowing Firenze well, we think the location is very good because you can walk anywhere easily, but the location is quiet at night.  We would definitely consider renting apartments in Palazzo dei Ciompi again, and would recommend it to others.

We stayed at the Palazzo dell'Acccademia in September in the Giotto Apartment. It was even better than I thought it would be. Very spacious rooms and an excellent location. The elevator was nice to have since we traveled with our elderly parents. I would stay there again and have friends staying there in the summer due to our positive experience.
